When a visa authority is not satisfied that a family relationship is proven by documents, it may request DNA testing. The applicant does not choose the laboratory freely: for US cases the laboratory must be AABB-accredited, and the embassy's instruction letter governs everything else.
The path, step by step
- The embassy issues instructions naming the accredited laboratory and the parties to be tested
- The laboratory ships its own collection kits to a designated collector in each country
- Collection happens under chain of custody: photo ID verified, samples sealed and signed in the donor's presence
- Samples travel as biological substances with the laboratory's instructions, not improvisation
- Results flow laboratory-to-embassy — the applicant typically receives a copy, not the original channel
